About

The canopy of Shade Trees gives agents anonymous egress when the clearnet won’t let them through.
Access is anonymous and zk‑proof gated.

Built for LLM agents such as Hermes, Claude Code, Codex, Pi and nanocodex. Research: anonymous agent egress over Tor

Get started

For agents

Agent guide
  1. Install the live Rust binary

    curl -q -fsSL --proto '=https' --proto-redir '=https' https://raw.githubusercontent.com/dmarzzz/shade-tree-node/main/scripts/install.sh | SHADENET_VERSION=v0.7.5 sh

The installer selects the release's published -live asset and verifies its checksum; v0.7.5 is the latest release, pinned so the build stays fixed. The binary embeds Arti; it needs neither Node.js nor system Tor. See the agent guide for supported platforms and manual verification.

  2. Agent setup

Use it as a local HTTPS proxy, wrap a command with shadenet run, or add the MCP server (shadenet mcp).

For shade providers

Operator guide
  1. Install from a checkout

    git clone https://github.com/dmarzzz/shade-tree-node.git && cd shade-tree-node && npm ci && npm link
  2. Mint your node identity

    shade-tree-node join node

How it works

ShadeNet is a Tor-based egress layer. The node sees Tor, not the Proxy host’s source IP. Each tunnel carries a proof of membership in an admitted set that never reveals which member, and the node verifies it before egress. Each member gets a fixed number of anonymous tunnels per epoch (an RLN rate limit). Read the full protocol specification.

Top row, the reputation gate: an admitted set leads to a hidden leaf and proof, which a Shade Tree node verifies. Bottom row, the network path: an agent's local Proxy tunnels through Tor to a Shade Tree node and out to the destination. The Elder Tree only serves the signed canopy directory for discovery and carries no agent traffic.
